Dorothy Day

Saturday February 24th 2007

A special day in celebration of the hard work, tremendous dedication and support for the Embroiderers Guild over 50 years of membership.

Dorothy Theaker

Founder member, Scunthorpe and District Branch

The other day when I went home no dinner was for me
I asked my wife the reason: she answered one, two, three.
I told her I was hungry and stamped upon the floor
She never even looked at me, but murmered 'one green more'
Of course, she made me angry, but she didn't care for that
And chatters while I talk to her 'a white and then a black.
Seven greens and then a purple, just hold your tongue my dear. You really do
annoy me so, I've made a wrong stitch here.'

Dorothy, with her wedding picture in the background.

(It was also Dorothy's Sapphire Wedding anniversary that day)

Dorothy had provided us with selections of her work for display

These are just two of the gorgeous peices she shared with us

Chariman (Sue) and Secretary (Pauline) conduct the branch business for the day.

Dorothy had prepared a set of worksheets to keep us busy during the day.

Members stitched and chatted and had a highly enjoyable time.

Here they are gathering at the end of the day to share the work they'd been doing

The display of pieces from the workshop.

(Copies of Dorothy's worksheets will shortly be available on this site)

We remember Dorothy with glad hearts. Her knowledge, and her creativity inspired us all and she will be sadly missed.
